Some afternoon of your week will be a washout — a summer thunderstorm, a winter cold front, or just too much sun already. This is the page to open when it happens. Everything here is indoors, and two of the best options are minutes from our Seminole door.
First: It Might Not Last
Florida rain in summer is usually a violent afternoon thunderstorm that passes in an hour. If it’s June through September and it’s early afternoon, check the radar before you drive anywhere — there’s a fair chance the sun is back before you’ve parked. Winter rain from a passing front is the sort that settles in for the day; that’s when this page earns its place.

🎬 Studio Movie Grill, Seminole — the easiest answer
7718 113th St N, Seminole. A dine-in cinema with reclining seats and full table service to your seat — food and drinks brought to you while the film plays. Guests consistently describe it as a genuinely relaxing way to spend a wet afternoon, and it’s a couple of minutes from our Seminole place.
Honest note: reviews on the food are mixed — some love it, some report dishes arriving cold. Treat it as a comfortable cinema that also feeds you rather than a restaurant that shows films.
🕹️ Treasure Island Fun Center, Seminole
7770 Seminole Blvd. Confusingly named — it’s in Seminole, not Treasure Island. Arcade games from classic pinball and claw machines through to air hockey and VR, plus an indoor pirate-themed mini golf course, pizza, and a bar with craft beer for the adults. Free soda refills.
One important warning: the mini golf course has over a hundred stairs and staff say so up front. It is not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties — but the arcade side is level and fine.
🎳 Liberty Lanes, Largo
11401 Starkey Rd. A big, clean, updated bowling alley about ten minutes from our Largo place, open until nearly 1am. Blacklight bowling in the evenings, skee ball and arcade games, a full bar with beer on tap, and food. Around $35 for a couple for two hours including shoes, and there’s a Sunday morning deal that has run at under a dollar a game — get there early for a lane.
👾 Neon Dreams Arcade, Largo
11100 66th St N. A gem, and unusual: a retro and import arcade with rare Japanese cabinets, consoles you can play, and a serious rhythm-game collection. One flat entry fee of around $15 for all-day play with re-entry — no tokens. Discounts for veterans, first responders and teachers.
Open Thursday to Sunday only, from 4pm. Bring wired headphones for the music games.
🔐 Escape Room Extreme, Largo
1870 Starkey Rd. Well reviewed, with pirate ship and Dracula-themed rooms and good special effects. Straightforward to book for a family group.
🎬 Regal Largo Mall
10500 Ulmerton Rd. A standard multiplex with recliners. Honest assessment from recent visitors: the seats are comfortable but worn, and the concession selection is limited. Fine for a film, not an event.
Downtown St. Petersburg — the serious rainy day
If it’s raining all day, drive the thirty minutes to St. Pete. There are six proper indoor attractions within a few blocks of each other, and the walking between them is mostly covered or short.
🎨 The Dalí Museum
1 Dali Blvd. The headline act, and it deserves it — 4.7 stars across more than 19,000 reviews. The largest collection of Salvador Dalí’s work outside Europe, in a building that’s worth seeing on its own. QR codes bring portraits to life, and there’s an audio tour, a café and a good shop.
Book ahead for Dalí Alive 360°, the immersive dome experience — it’s timed and popular. A caveat: the dome also runs music shows (Pink Floyd, Queen) and reviews on those are sharply divided. The Dalí film itself is well liked; the band shows are a gamble.
Open daily, until 8pm on Thursdays. Allow two hours.
🌈 Chihuly Collection
720 Central Ave. Dale Chihuly’s glass, beautifully lit and presented, in a purpose-built space. Smaller than the Seattle collection but immersive, with a short film on the artist. Takes about thirty minutes.
The best part is included: your ticket covers the hot glass-blowing demonstration at the Morean Arts Center a minute’s walk away. Multiple reviewers say it was better than the gallery itself. Check the demonstration schedule when you buy.
🖼️ Museum of Fine Arts
255 Beach Dr NE. Small, intimate and properly curated — the permanent collection includes a Monet. Two hours is plenty, and it’s easy to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed. Closed Mondays.
✨ Imagine Museum
1901 Central Ave. Two floors of contemporary glass art, 4.8 stars across 2,800 reviews, and several reviewers rate it above the Chihuly Collection for sheer quantity and variety. There’s a whimsical UFO and steampunk section, art stations and a scavenger hunt for children, a bakery on the ground floor, and free parking.
The deal: admission has run at around $5 on Sunday mornings between 10am and noon. Closed Mondays. Probably not one for under-fives.
🖌️ Morean Arts Center
719 Central Ave. Free admission. Local and international work, monthly openings, open studios, and the glass-blowing demonstrations. Closed Sundays.
🧒 Great Explorations Children’s Museum
1925 4th St N. Hands-on exhibits with a dedicated area for under-fours. Well loved by families who return across years. Open daily.

Clearwater
- The Escape Ventures, 620 Lakeview Rd — a perfect 5.0 across more than 3,000 reviews, which is remarkable. Experienced escape-room players who’ve done a hundred-plus rooms rate it in their top five. Two rooms, high production quality. Closed Mondays.
- Game Over Escape Rooms, 2790 Gulf to Bay Blvd — 4.9 across 830 reviews. Orient Express and Alice in Wonderland rooms both praised for theming.
- Hatchet Hangout, 709 N Myrtle Ave — axe throwing with coaching, 4.9 stars, open 11am to 11pm daily. Beer available. Better for a group than you’d expect, and no experience needed.
- Launch Family Entertainment, 27001 US 19 N — trampolines, laser tag and arcade. Two honest notes: it’s expensive, and at least one visitor found the advertised wall climbing and basketball weren’t available. Check what’s actually open before you pay.
- Celebration Station, 24546 US 19 — go-karts, bumper boats, laser tag, mini golf, batting cages and arcade. Mostly outdoor attractions with a large indoor arcade, so partly weather-dependent, but the arcade alone will absorb an afternoon.
- Clearwater Marine Aquarium — a working marine hospital rather than a conventional aquarium, and largely undercover.

- Tampa Bay Automobile Museum, Pinellas Park — a genuinely unusual collection where every car still runs and carries a current Florida plate. Small, quiet, and perfect for an hour out of the rain. Our full guide
- Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, Tarpon Springs — on the St. Petersburg College campus, free with donations encouraged, and repeatedly described as a hidden gem. Rotating exhibitions plus a permanent collection. Closed Sunday and Monday.
- Catapult Adventure Park, St. Petersburg — trampolines, a suspended obstacle course, slides, go-karts and arcade. Consistently praised for cleanliness and for accommodating children with additional needs.
- Heritage Village, Largo — mostly outdoor, but several historic buildings are enterable and it’s free. Best for a break in the weather rather than steady rain. Our full guide

Worth the Drive to Tampa
- Glazer Children’s Museum — three floors, widely rated one of the best children’s museums anywhere, with a huge water play area and a café. Around forty-five minutes.
- The Florida Aquarium — the region’s big aquarium, almost entirely indoors.
- Elev8 Fun, Citrus Park — bowling, go-karts, laser tag, mini golf, axe throwing and arcade under one roof. The everything-at-once option for a mixed-age group.
Know Before You Go
📅 Mondays Are the Trap
The Museum of Fine Arts, Imagine Museum, Leepa-Rattner and The Escape Ventures are all closed Mondays. Morean closes Sundays. Neon Dreams is Thursday to Sunday only. A rainy Monday needs planning — the Dalí, Chihuly, Great Explorations and the cinemas are your reliable options.
🎟️ Look for the Deals
Imagine Museum has run $5 Sunday mornings, Liberty Lanes a Sunday morning bowling special, and the Dalí offers student and membership rates with reciprocity at other local museums. Morean and Leepa-Rattner are free. A rainy day needn’t be expensive.
🅿️ Parking in St. Pete
Downtown St. Pete parking is metered and garages fill on event days. The Dalí offers free parking with membership, and Imagine Museum has its own free lot — useful to know.
⏱️ Book the Timed Things
Dalí Alive 360°, escape rooms and axe throwing all need slots. Booking that morning is usually fine, but turning up unannounced on a wet Saturday is not.
🌩️ Lightning Closes Outdoor Things
Pools, water parks and go-kart tracks shut when lightning is within range, sometimes for a while after the rain stops. Anything on this list marked as partly outdoor may be affected.

From Our Rentals
Our Largo rental (1731 Clearwater Harbor Dr): Liberty Lanes, Neon Dreams, Escape Room Extreme and Regal Largo Mall are all inside fifteen minutes. Clearwater is twenty; downtown St. Pete about thirty-five.
Our Seminole rental (13189 87th Ave N): Studio Movie Grill and Treasure Island Fun Center are both a couple of minutes away — the two easiest wet-afternoon fixes on this page. Downtown St. Pete is around thirty minutes.
