This one is about the fifteen minutes around our own front doors — the grouper sandwich you can walk to, the breakfast place the locals queue for, the fish market where they’ll tell you how to cook what you just bought. This is the page we’d want if we were staying.

🦐 Seafood Dinners on the Beach Strip
This is what the area does best, and there are four serious options within a couple of miles of our Largo place.
🥇 Guppy’s On the Beach — 1701 Gulf Blvd
4.6 stars across more than 5,500 reviews, and the one locals name first. The lobster bisque and the fish spread come up in review after review, along with the crab cake, blackened grouper and swordfish. Key lime pie to finish.
Two practical things: they run a call-ahead list rather than reservations — use it. And parking gets tough at peak times. There’s a park across the street that’s a good spot to catch the sunset before you eat.
🥇 Keegan’s Seafood Grille — 1519 Gulf Blvd
A proper old-Florida seafood room, 4.5 across 3,600+ reviews, and the “have to stop” for a lot of returning visitors. The she-crab soup is the thing to order; the grilled octopus has people driving across the bay for it, and the key lime pie uses a Ritz cracker crust.
Know before you go: no reservations, and waits of well over an hour happen at peak. Beer and wine only — no cocktails. And it’s thin on vegetarian options beyond a salad. Free parking right outside.
🥈 The Original Crabby Bill’s — 401 Gulf Blvd
The institution, with nearly 11,000 reviews. Snow crab legs, Chicago-style oysters, crab cakes, and a waterfront view. Big, busy, family-friendly and reliably good.
One note for anyone who came here decades ago: the original rustic building is gone and the new one is more conventional. Some of the old decorations survive, and the “Don’t Worry, Be Crabby” shirts are still on the staff.
🥈 Beach Waves Grill — 2300 Gulf Blvd
Smaller and less known, 4.6 stars, and a real find. Crab and corn chowder and grouper cheeks are the standouts, with covered open-air seating, a Gulf breeze and ceiling misting fans that make a hot afternoon bearable.
Worth knowing: their spirits are wine-based substitutes rather than distilled liquor. Fine for most people, odd if you’re particular about a cocktail.

- Monstah Lobstah (125 Gulf Blvd) — a Connecticut-style lobster roll that people rate as the best outside Maine, plus live music and an 8am opening.
- Groupers on the Gulf (1401 Gulf Blvd) — small, characterful, and the grouper Reuben is the order. Gluten-free options. Closed Mondays. Reviews on the soups are mixed; stick to the grouper.
- Jimmy Guana’s (401 2nd St) — waterfront patio, live music, open 7am to midnight. Good for a drink and a view; the food gets mixed reports.
🥂 The Dress-Up Dinner
Salt Rock Grill — 19325 Gulf Blvd, Indian Shores
4.5 stars across 8,300 reviews, and the place to book when you want an occasion. Fresh seafood, properly cooked steaks, an extensive menu, warm sourdough with garlic basil oil, and a view worth the window seat. Roughly halfway between our two places.
Two tips. The early supper menu and the tiki bar happy hour are genuinely good value — one visitor rated a $7 cosmo the best on the island. And be firm about ordering from it: at least one diner felt heavily upsold and was charged $10 for substituting a side. Know what you want.
Opens 4pm weekdays, noon at weekends.

Both our places have kitchens, but nobody wants to cook every morning.
🥇 Proino Breakfast Club — 14400 Walsingham Rd, Largo
The one to send people to on the Largo side. The Greek skillet is the house specialty and it’s excellent; the eggs Benedict variations are good too, and there’s a senior menu. Busy, fast, spotless, cheap. 7am to 2pm, every day.
Honest note: one reviewer wanted crepes and got sweet pancakes. Order the skillet.
🥇 AJ’s Breakfast Club — 7194 Seminole Blvd
A perfect 5.0 across 521 reviews, which almost never happens. Puerto Rican cooking — mofongo, the tripleta, bistec, Cubans on La Segunda bread, beef stew, and bread pudding people rave about. The coffee beans are sent by the owner’s brother in Puerto Rico. The owner greets everyone himself and reviewers keep calling it a hidden gem.
Open Wednesday to Saturday only, and closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Plan around it — it’s worth planning around.

- Savory (12881 Walsingham Rd) — breakfast served all day, huge portions, very cheap, and all-you-can-eat ribs Tuesday to Thursday. Independent and long-established. Closed Mondays.
- Seminole Diner (9124 Seminole Blvd) — a tiny mom-and-pop that’s easy to drive past. Fried bologna, fried okra, giant portions, half the price of the polished places. Look for the plaza sign. 7am–2pm.
- Mama’s Kitchen (5885 Seminole Blvd) — breakfast at any hour, generous, popular with locals. They charge for lemons for your tea, which several reviewers found funny and a couple didn’t.
- Apple Butter Cafe (10555 Park Blvd) — diner vibes, the corned beef hash Benedict, great home fries, good kids’ menu. The coffee is reportedly weak.
- Speggtacular (12125 Indian Rocks Rd) — five-egg omelettes and smoked salmon avocado toast. Loud inside, and the portions are enormous.
- Grove Surf Cafe (1309 Gulf Blvd) — the coffee stop. Proper lattes, breakfast bowls and burritos, a little gift shop, and a toddler-friendly corner. 8am–3pm.
- Cafe de Paris Bakery (2300 Gulf Blvd) — a genuine French bakery with a chef-owner making crepes to order. Croissants that get called the best people have had. Closed Monday and Tuesday, 7.30am–3pm.
🍝 When You’ve Had Enough Seafood
🥇 Forchetta Italian Eatery — 13688 Walsingham Rd, Largo
4.7 stars, and the reviews read like people describing a family dinner rather than a restaurant. The gnocchi is what everyone names — the four-cheese and the Sorrentina both — along with risotto alla pescatora, lobster ravioli when it’s on, and bread with garlic-infused olive oil that reviewers say should be illegal. The owner and chef come round the tables.
Dinner only, 4.30pm, and closed Tuesdays. Book ahead at weekends.
🥇 Savanh of Laos — 5667 Seminole Blvd
4.8 stars, and the most interesting food near either place. Proper Lao cooking — green papaya salad, pork larb, duck larb, crispy rice with pork, sticky rice. People who’ve lived in Thailand and Laos vouch for the authenticity in the reviews.
Be careful with the heat: Lao medium is most people’s hot. Closed Wednesdays, and it shuts between 3pm and 4pm.
🥈 Clear Sky on Park — 13079 Park Blvd, Seminole
The closest good dinner to our Seminole place. Made-from-scratch, beachy room, and the grouper tacos get called the best fish tacos people have had in a while. Tuna crispy rice is the sleeper order. Opens 8 or 9am, so it does breakfast too.

- Kooky Coconut (760 Gulf Blvd) — a Cuban sandwich that regulars call the best in the area, plus ice cream and fresh coconuts, right by a beach access. Gluten-free bread available and good with allergies. Tiny inside — get it to go.
- Sirens Pub N Grub (13800 Park Blvd) — scallops over polenta, a saucy burger, golf games in the back. Small and well kept.
- Five Bucks Drinkery (7498 Seminole Blvd) — dollar wings, pastrami sandwiches, every game on. Good after a ball game.
🍺 A Drink, With or Without the Dog
- Barks and Brews Taphouse (14219 Walsingham Rd) — a taphouse with a dog park attached, two miles from our Largo place. Day passes available, trivia on Thursdays, and a dog-free section if you’d rather eat in peace.
- Mike’s Taphouse (14461 Walsingham Rd) — 30 to 40 craft and import taps, the best selection in the immediate area, plus good pizza and wings. Old-school tavern up front, restaurant across the car park.
- RockHouse Live (14219 Walsingham Rd) — live bands most nights, $1 wing night midweek, and line dancing on Mondays with an instructor. A proper night out without driving to the beach.

🍦 Ice Cream, and One Piece of Old Florida
- IRB Creamery (1401 Gulf Blvd) — 4.8 stars, open until 11pm, Italian ice as well as ice cream, a candy shop attached and free parking. The after-dinner walk.
- Tropical Ice Cream & Coffee (435 Gulf Blvd) — reportedly around 142 flavours, freezer after freezer of them. Opens 2pm.
- Yellow Banks Groves (14423 Walsingham Rd) — not really an ice cream shop. It’s a surviving old Florida citrus stand: fresh-squeezed orange juice bottled on site, key lime pie people call the best they’ve tasted, fresh oranges and grapefruit, and the orange-and-vanilla swirl soft serve that’s the reason to stop. A genuine window into what this coast was before the condos. Closed Sundays, 10am–5.30pm.
🐟 Cooking at the House — Buy the Fish Yourself
Both our places have full kitchens and a grill, and this is the single best thing you can do with them. Fresh Gulf fish off a local boat, cooked simply, beats most restaurant meals here and costs a fraction.
🥇 Nachman’s Seafood Market & Smokehouse — 17811 Gulf Blvd, Redington Shores
4.8 stars, and the reviews are about the people as much as the fish. Fresh, frozen and smoked seafood — the smoked mullet and the smoked fish spread are what regulars come for — plus stone crab in season, Argentine reds, and smoked chicken and sausage.
What makes it worth the drive: visitors from out of state describe being told exactly where the fish was caught, the difference between that and the imported fish in the restaurants, and being sent off with cooking instructions, a lemon and some ice. The beach is across the street. Closed Sundays, 10am–6pm.

- Fishbusterz (13613 Gulf Blvd, Madeira Beach) — most of the fish comes straight off the local boats. Whole fish or fillets, homemade crab cakes, fish dip, stone crab claws in season. Open daily.
- Don’s Dock (215 Boardwalk Pl E, Madeira Beach) — on the John’s Pass boardwalk, open from 7am, and handy if you’re already down there.
- Gulf Coast Seafood (Gulfport) — further, but 4.8 stars and a bigger operation with house-made crab cakes, sauces, pasta and a wine room. A one-stop shop for a dinner party.

Know Before You Go
📅 The Closed Days Matter Here
These are small independents and nearly all of them take a day off. Forchetta closes Tuesdays. Savory closes Mondays. Savanh of Laos closes Wednesdays. Cafe de Paris closes Monday and Tuesday. Groupers closes Mondays. Nachman’s and Yellow Banks close Sundays. AJ’s opens Wednesday to Saturday only. A Monday or Tuesday needs checking.
⏰ Eat Early
The beach restaurants fill from about 5.30pm and waits get long — over an hour at Keegan’s and Guppy’s at peak. Eat at 4.30 or 5, or eat late.
📞 Call-Ahead Lists Aren’t Reservations
Several of the good ones — Guppy’s especially — take your name by phone but don’t hold a table. Ring on your way out of the house.
🅿️ Parking on Gulf Blvd
Restaurant lots on the beach strip are small. Keegan’s, Beach Waves and IRB Creamery all have their own free parking, which is worth knowing on a busy evening.
🚲 You Can Walk or Cycle to a Lot of This
From our Largo place the whole Indian Rocks Beach strip is a short hop, and Gulf Blvd has bike lanes the full length. A beach dinner without moving the car is very doable.
🥗 Dietary Needs
Gluten-free is well handled at Kooky Coconut, Groupers on the Gulf and Mama’s Greek in Tarpon Springs. Vegetarians will find the beach seafood places thin — Forchetta, Savanh of Laos and Clear Sky are much better bets.

From Our Rentals
From our Largo place (1731 Clearwater Harbor Dr): the whole Indian Rocks Beach strip is minutes west — Guppy’s, Keegan’s, Crabby Bill’s, the creamery. Inland on Walsingham Rd you’ve got Proino, Savory, Forchetta, Mike’s, Barks and Brews and Yellow Banks Groves, all inside ten minutes.
From our Seminole place (13189 87th Ave N): Clear Sky on Park is the closest good dinner. Seminole Blvd and Park Blvd give you AJ’s, Savanh of Laos, Mama’s Kitchen, Apple Butter and the Seminole Diner. Salt Rock Grill and Nachman’s are both a short drive west.
